Quanfu Temple
Shanghai, China
In the first year of the reign of Emperor Yuanyou of Song Dynasty (1086), Zhou Missionary donated his residence to construct Quanfu Temple near the Baixian Lake, in the northwest of the town. It was expanded several times and the Grand Hall of the temple is majestic. Stepping into the hall, and you will see an imposing 10-meter-high Buddha statue. The Buddha's palm is large enough to hold a man. The 18 Arhats on both sides look as vivid as life. Li Xiangeng, a calligrapher of the early Qing Dynasty, visited the temple and inscribed a giant plaque upon the front gate, reading Riverside Buddhism Kingdom.
It's a Small World: Shanghai
Italian filmmaker Filippo Chiesa is the kind of traveler who immediately wants to understand the local intricacies of the places he visits. When his friend Leonardo invited him to China to visit Shanghai and the town of Zhouzhuang, he grabbed his camera and got on a plane. Contrasting a metropolis with a small scenic village provided Filippo ample opportunity to find humanity and common ground. Through the faces of the strangers, this video takes us on a visual reflection of his unique journey abroad.
